Webcast: Antibiotic binding to E. coli and impact on cell killing

Dr. Quinn presents his work on polymyxins—gram-negative antibiotics that target lipid A, the conserved membrane anchor of lipopolysaccharide in the outer membrane. Despite their clinical importance, the molecular mechanisms of polymyxin activity remain unresolved. This webcast provides insight into interactions between polymyxins and lipid A. A moderated panel discussion covers the use of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) to better understand molecular mechanisms of lipid A-targeting antibiotics and how a model was derived to study the gram-negative bacterial outer membrane.
